Al Franken beats Fox.

This is a great article, with the Great Satan getting theirs.

I might just have to buy Franken's book now...

On the box right now: The Del McCoury Band, IT'S JUST THE NIGHT

OK, since everyone knows that TV is only really worth watching for specific reasons (I mean, sure, it's fun to surf, but - at least personally - finding a buried treasure this way is rarer than a decent George W. Bush speech.) Well, one of those specific reasons - a BIG one - is coming up Sunday night. VH1, whose programming is usually far more entertaining than affecting, is going straight for the deep heart and soul of a special documentary on Warren Zevon, the great great great singer/songwriter whose dying of lung cancer and just completed his final album. Check the listings for the time of the show; it'll almost assuredly be worth a view. (As if that weren't good enough, I found out a couple days ago that it'll be commercial-free!!)

That's about all for today...don't do anything rash.

On the box right now: Neil Young and Crazy Horse, GREENDALE is finishing up, and Rancid, INDESTRUCTIBLE and The Neptunes, PRESENT CLONES are both on the hopper.

Peace...

Finally, there's been a 2-week stretch of records coming out that have lived up to their potential, after a long stretch of disappointments. Both old standbys (Neil Young, Rancid, Del McCoury Band) and young guns (Junior Senior, Big Gipp, Kings of Leon) delivered big time. The Big Gipp is a particular fave, as Gipp becomes the second member of Goodie Mob (after Cee-Lo, whose album last year was the year's best - though not most important - hip-hop record) to step out on his own and bring the pain. My favorite track right now is "Boogie Man," a duet with OutKast's Andre 3000 that reminds me how much I'm looking forward to their record, now pushed back to 9/23.

Speaking of the Del McCoury Band, looks like I'll be interviewing one of the band on Monday morning. I maintain that the Del McCoury Band is one of the five best things in modern music, the other four being (in no particular order) Steve Earle, OutKast, Robert Bradley's Blackwater Surprise and Alvin Youngblood Hart. Even though I love a bunch of other folks beyond description (Bruce, Neil, Nick Lowe, Dylan, Missy Elliot etc.), these five artists are the best in the world, IMHO.

Jim Hightower has a new book out. For those who don't know, Jim Hightower is THE MAN.

On the box right now: Big Gipp, MUTANT MINDFRAME

Peace...
